We are looking for a Residential Support Worker to provide effective support to the organisations Residential Rehabilitation Programme in a way that enables clients to overcome their addiction to gambling and move forward to recovery and independent living.

The Programme provides structured support, to males aged over 18 years with severe gambling history, through a 12-week residential stay.

Position: Residential Support Worker

Location: Beckenham

Salary: From £20,000- £25,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: 35 hours per week Monday to Friday

Contract: Permanent

About the Role

As Residential Support Worker, you will lead on the induction of new residents through provision of key information, ensuring initial needs and concerns are identified and met, and helping them to settle in. This will also include preparation of their room, safe storage of personal items and property checks.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead on housing benefits applications – supporting residents to complete and submit
  • Assist and ensure residents are registered with local facilities
  • Liaise with a range of health, justice and social care agencies to support residents’ needs and recovery, including other gambling treatment providers
  • Assist and provide advocacy for residents with communication issues where appropriate
  • Address problems arising within the house on an individual basis or within house meetings
  • Support residents to develop their living skills
  • Support residents to plan for indoor and outdoor recreational and recovery-based activities
  • Support residents to meet their wider health and social care needs, both whilst in treatment and on exit to the community, in line with their support plans and in liaison with the therapists
  • Support the service to ensure rent payments are made and arrears are managed
  • Undertake monthly Health & Safety checks of communal areas, staff areas and resident’s rooms
  • Support the therapists in the delivery of the Programme
  • Support development of the Programme though evaluation, continuous improvement and development projects as necessary
  • Proactively support the work of the organisation with external stakeholders
  • Partake in learning and development opportunities

About You

As a Residential Support Worker,

You will also have:

  • Have worked in a similar role (in addictions would be advantageous)
  • Organisation skills, including support planning with vulnerable groups
  • Communication skills, to include both written and verbal reporting
  • Understanding of risk, incident and safeguarding processes
  • Negotiation, advocacy, advice and signposting skills
  • The ability to establish working relationships with partner agencies
  • The ability to handle crisis situations and work flexibly to meet needs
  • The ability to work independently, as part of a team and as part of a wider organisation
